The UN General Assembly requested that all UN actors cooperate with the IIIM and respond to its requests, including providing access to relevant information and documentation. In engaging with other UN actors and agencies, the IIIM develops tailored cooperation agreements that take into consideration the restrictions and requirements that each organisation has for the material it holds.
The Independent International Commission of Inquiry on the Syrian Arab Republic (CoI)
The CoI, formed in 2011 to investigate and report on alleged violations in Syria, is a key interlocutor for the IIIM. Each has a complementary but distinct mandate that covers different aspects of international violations committed. The CoI has collected material and information to support its work since its establishment. The IIIM concluded a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the CoI in March 2018, which allows it to acquire the majority of the material collected by the CoI since 2011.
